More adolescent girls went to ER for mental health conditions during COVID-19 pandemic, study finds

Teenage girls accounted for the largest proportion of emergency department visits for mental health conditions in 2020, 2021, and January 2022 compared with 2019, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Weekly ER visits among adolescent girls doubled for eating disorder treatments, and tripled for those with tic disorders, like Tourettes syndrome.
