Breastfeeding may protect babies from antibiotic-resistant ‘superbugs’

Breastfeeding is linked to a reduction in bacteria resistant to antibiotics in babies’ gut microbiome. That means breastfed babies may be at lower risk of “superbugs” than infants who receive formula. The research suggests the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria may start in infancy, prior to any exposure to antibiotics.
